Abbott released a fucking cool new type of glucose monitor in Europe in 2015 ... the Freestyle Libre.
Here's a link to a test drive of the device at diaTribe.org. It's basically a continuous glucose monitor, however it doesn't actively transmit from the sensor to the monitor ; one hold the reader in close proximity to the sensor, and the reader syncs data collected by the sensor ... according to the test drive, the sensor will store eight hours of data, and is good for 14 days.
Goddamn I want one of these now. $400 USD for a reader and 2 sensors from Germany on eBay. I'll do a bit more googling to make sure it works how I expect it to work - I want actual numbers, and not just a "trend arrow" as the test drive states ... I suppose as long as it gives me an actual number whenever I scan the sensor, as long as I scan frequently enough, that'll do ...
This is *totally* gonna add an interesting quantification spin on my next 7-10 day water fast!
In summary : cool beans, gimme, fuck Health Canada, fuck Abbott, gimme gimme gimme.
